茶水 Flow

“For a river that comes and goes.

To see; to remember.

To understand that were incomprehensible and to see those invisible —

Or to open my eyes, once again. ” ── Xie Wanglin

Nangang is adjacent to the Keelung River, the tributary of the Danshui River, the largest water system in northern Taiwan. It is connected to the Nangang Mountain and the Sishou Hills. The thriving tea industry in the late 19th century opened the water gateway to the world. Along the way, history developed and the industry changed several times, becoming the present Nangang Software Park. The theme of his exhibition is Nangang tea industry during the Japanese colonization, here we look back along the waterway and take a trip down the memory lane as the tea boils. On the first floor, Johan Cheng’s paper cutting installation expresses a different perspective of enjoying tea between two generations. Moving to the tenth floor, enjoy Lin Shaoing’s music piece The Mountain, the River, and the Sea. Taking the former residence of Wei Jingshi, the “father of Taiwanese tea” during Japanese colonization as the starting point, musings become notes flowing down the path of tea trading. Rolling over Nangang Tea Moutain, following Daken River, meeting with Keelung river, and finally sailing towards the ocean, the music strings together the relationship between the tea, the island, and the ocean. Formosa Tea School presents the film A Tribute to the 150th Anniversary of Formosa Tea to conclude the exhibition. Explore a page of local history with the audio and images in this film.
