Workplace Friendliness
Job Redesign
We challenge the stereotype that a job must consist of a fixed set of tasks. By breaking down and redesigning various roles, we create options that better fit the physical needs, flexible hours, and easier learning requirements for mid-to-senior staff.
Taking restaurant servers as an example, previously a single person completed all service processes, including table setting, seating, ordering, food serving, clearing, billing, and cleaning. This was complex and physically demanding.
Through job redesign, we extracted simple and independent tasks suitable for Active Seniors, such as table setting, guiding guests, and clearing tables. This approach makes it easier for Active Seniors to start while allowing younger partners to focus on complex tasks, creating a collaborative environment where different generations support each other.
Environmental Friendliness
Flexible Working Hours
We provide flexible shifts. For instance, Hotel Royal Chiaohsi offers three breakfast service shifts: 06:30-10:30, 07:00-11:00, and 07:30-11:30. Housekeeping also provides three time slots: 10:30-14:30, 11:00-15:00, and 11:30-15:30.
Active Seniors can choose tasks based on their strengths and select working hours according to their physical condition and family needs. For example, one could work three days a week, handling restaurant seating for 3 hours in the morning and amenity preparation for 3 hours in the afternoon. This flexibility moves away from fixed duties and hours.

Lifestyle Friendliness

Furthermore, hotels offer various courses such as wine tasting, mobile photography, etiquette, stress relief, language improvement, catering sales skills, and exhibition tours to enrich workplace experiences and knowledge for Active Seniors.
Treatment Friendliness
Intergenerational Inclusion and Cooperation
To help Active Seniors integrate faster, Hotel Royal pairs each new Active Senior with a dedicated mentor. This mentor provides job training and assists in resolving work or interpersonal issues.
Within the hotel, management, hiring managers, and frontline staff must attend various courses. Topics include Analysis of Demographic Trends and Age-Friendly Corporate Indicators, Recruitment Techniques for Mid-to-Senior Talents, Building a Friendly Workplace Team, and Sharing Job Redesign Examples. We aim to link strategy with daily operations to build an age-friendly workplace together.

Hotel Royal-Nikko Taipei
Housekeeping Intern
| Huang Chia-ying
Twenty-year-old Chia-ying is an overseas Chinese student from Indonesia who has been in Taiwan for nearly three years. As a tourism major, she joined Hotel Royal-Nikko Taipei through a cooperative education program. Today, she has become an outstanding senior who works independently and guides newer students.
Q: What is your favorite part about this job?
A: My favorite part is that my colleagues are very friendly. When I first started learning, they were very patient in teaching me and were always happy to help with any problems. Additionally, I am often moved by the encouragement and care from guests, such as when they remind us to drink more water in hot weather.
Q: What kind of support does the company provide to help you master your work and integrate?
A: To take care of overseas Chinese students, the company specifically employed an Indonesian housekeeping staff member. Besides her regular duties, she is responsible for chatting and dining with us after work, acting like a mother figure for us in Taiwan to help us adapt more quickly. Furthermore, dormitories are provided so that we do not have to worry about accommodation and can work with a peaceful mind.
Q: What encouragement would you give to overseas Chinese students coming to study or intern in Taiwan?
A: Both the educational and employment environments in Taiwan are quite safe and stable. I believe everyone can integrate smoothly and enjoy working happily!

Royal Inn

|Liu Chia-yu
During the interview, Chia-yu's straightforward and cheerful personality was evident, and her warm smile was truly infectious. Influenced by her father's helpful nature, she never hesitates to lend a hand to those in need, whether at work or in life. Her dedication has led her to be recognized as a Hotel Royal Service Star twice.
Q: Why did you choose to join Hotel Royal?
A: When selecting an internship, I saw Hotel Royal and felt it was a familiar and well-known brand. Royal Inn was looking for Front Desk interns, and since I enjoy interacting with people, I was particularly interested in this role and decided to apply.
Q: What moment has given you the greatest sense of achievement in this job?
A: As a student of Applied Japanese, this job provides many opportunities to communicate face-to-face with Japanese guests, allowing me to apply what I have learned. The front desk faces various guest questions every day. Whenever I help a guest and see their gratitude and joy, I feel very fulfilled.
Q: What is your favorite part about Hotel Royal?
A: For newcomers to the workforce, Hotel Royal is a very friendly environment. Managers and colleagues are easy to get along with. They are neither overprotective nor indifferent and harsh. Most importantly, everyone treats interns as formal partners, which helps newcomers adapt and grow better.

Hotel Royal Hsinchu
Service Center
| Chang Hsin-yu
Hsin-yu previously worked in the airline industry and semiconductor sales. After getting married and having children, she became a full-time mother to care for her child who required early intervention. Facing various emergencies at home, she experienced significant physical and mental pressure, including periods of depression. After three years in a relatively closed environment, Hsin-yu missed her former self at work and sought an outlet to release stress, leading to her decision to re-enter the workforce.
Q: Why did you choose to join Hotel Royal?
A: I encountered difficulties during my job search as many full-time positions had rigid regulations that were hard to balance with childcare. However, this role at Hotel Royal offers great flexibility. My colleagues are very friendly and understanding of my scheduling challenges. Working at the Service Center involves interacting with many domestic and international travelers, which allows me to apply the foreign language and hospitality skills I accumulated in the past.
Q: What have you gained from this job?
A: My family is very supportive of this endeavor. Short working hours allow me to change my mood and temporarily set aside the pressure of childcare. Most importantly, I have regained my confidence and sense of achievement. Although the earnings may not be substantial, the feeling of being able to pay for a cup of coffee with my own money is quite different!
Q: What encouragement would you give to other full-time mothers who are returning to the workforce?
A: Those of us re-entering the workforce actually possess certain advantages, such as more experience in interpersonal interactions and sharper observation skills. Give yourself a chance to step out of your usual environment and interact with different people. It not only broadens your horizons and mindset, but a positive and cheerful mood also helps make family relationships more harmonious.

Royal Inn
Concierge
| Chen Yu-wen
Wendy, a senior colleague at Royal Inn, has served Hotel Royal for over 25 years. She retired in 2019 but returned to the workforce without hesitation three months later when former colleagues needed support. Listening to Wendy talk about her work, one can feel that Hotel Royal is like an old friend or family to her—deeply familiar and a place of mutual growth.
Q: Having worked at Hotel Royal for many years, do you have any memorable stories?
A: There was a time when our inn was being renovated, and I was temporarily reassigned to Hotel Royal-Nikko Taipei for support. Two regular Japanese guests specifically visited me there just to say hello, which was a wonderful surprise and truly touching.
Q: What is your favorite part about this job?
A: I enjoy the interactions with my colleagues most. Exchanging ideas with younger partners allows me to learn new things from them, while my years of experience enable me to mentor the next generation with practical advice and guidance.
Q: What encouragement would you give to job seekers over the age of 65?
A: In fact, the social atmosphere shows a lot of respect for older workers. You can maintain a calm mind and not worry too much about retirement age. If you find a job that is suitable and that you enjoy, just try it. It helps keep your physical state better and keeps you up to date with the changes of the times.
